2024 Fantastic Fanfares
Compose a Fanfare!
Our Fantastic Fanfares composing competition has now entered its 7th year and is for young people in secondary education. We will divide entries by age:
-
Ages 11 to 14
-
Ages 15 to18
This year, we are delighted to launch our new primary competition, Fabulous Fanfares for primary pupils aged 8-11.They will be encouraged to be guided and supported by their teachers.
Entries can be scored for either conventional instruments or electronic production.
We are delighted and very grateful that the competition will again be supported by Dorico composing software.

This support will include:
● A Dorico Pro licence for the winner of the senior competition(s)
● A Dorico Elements licence for the first 25 entrants
Entrants may use any software (or none at all) but the prizes offer enthusiastic composers an opportunity to deepen and enhance their knowledge and skills.
Details of the competition have been sent to schools in Northwest London and nearby, but entries are very welcome from young people anywhere, so please share with any schools or young people who may be interested. Proms will help the winner/s with the final recording. The fanfares will be judged by Proms at St Jude’s and professional musicians, and we hope that the winning fanfare/s will be played during Proms 2024.
Closing date 22 March 2024 - Ages 8 to 11
Closing date 26 January 2024 - Ages 11 to 14, 15 to 18

Proms at St Jude’s and DaCapo produced a 20 minute video and printable resource pack to support the Fanfare composition. This has been well received by secondary school music departments.
"This is an excellent resource! Thank you very much!"
"Very well put together, well done to the team"
“Amazing. Thank you so much. These resources are brilliant”
Both are available free to secondary music teachers and can be found on our Resources page.
