2026 Winners of the Fanfare Competition
The results of our fanfare composing competition, supported by Dorico, are now in! Composers under 19 were invited to submit a bold, memorable piece lasting 30 seconds or fewer.
We congratulate Sanjana Shankar, aged 17, from The Henrietta Barnett School as the winner of the 15-18 class and winner overall. Her work will be performed by Fantasia Orchestra on our opening night, Saturday 27 June.
Congratulations are also due to Sanjana’s sister, Shraddha Shankar, 11, from Crook Log Primary School, who won in the Primary class, and to Aubrey Abbot Barrington from Great Ballard School, West Sussex, who won in the 11-14 class and is now aged 15. Chapman Shum, 15, from Linden Lodge School, was Highly Commended.
Joan Arnold, one of the four judges (who included last year’s winner, Alice Espitalier-Noel) said that the standard was again very high. “It’s wonderful to see such talent from people so young and we wish them well on their future musical journeys.”
