A popular and well-established element of our programme is our Teeny Proms. These are designed for toddlers and pre-school children to participate in musician-led singing and music-making with a parent or grandparent. Local nursery schools are also included by invitation. We hope to see you there, but in the meantime the Teeny Prom recorded for Proms at Home in 2020 is available on our YouTube channel for entertainment on a rainy day!
A highlight of the final day of Proms is the Family Concert where families and children can enjoy an exciting, age-appropriate musical performance which often incorporates drama or art. In recent years, we have welcomed the Magnard Ensemble and Albert’s Band. In 2023, the Family Concert featuring James Mayhew with musicians from Fantasia Orchestra was part of our first Family Festival. The Family Festival took place on Central Square, as well as at The Henrietta Barnett School and Proms marquees and included a Teeny Prom, Junk Orchestra, a Musical Treasure Hunt, art activities and face painting. We are planning an even more exciting event in 2025.
We also run a Schools’ Prom. In 2023, pupils from local schools performed 'Assalay' - a series of songs specially commissioned by the DaCapo Music Foundation from Tracey Mathias and the late John Ashton Thomas.
The provision of high quality musical outreach is a key part of our offer to local schools. Our annual Schools’ Prom in St Jude-on-the-Hill is the culmination of in-school workshops led by professional musicians. More information about this is on the dedicated Schools’ Prom page.
